When is the last time you heard someone say there was a Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill?

Let me guess. Could it have been about a year ago?

I ask that because it seems that the Richmond Hill Exchange Club hosts an annual Kids Fishing Derby in our neck of the woods. And you know what “annual” means. It means this event takes place once a year, and probably about the same time each year.

2014 marks the 24th year in a row that the Exchange Club has held this Kids Fishing Derby, so it’s quite possible that there are adult fishermen (and fisherwomen) who took part in this event as children who are now bringing their own kids to enjoy the fun.

That’s a perfect example of the kind of old-fashioned, wholesome family activities that the Richmond Hill community is known for, and one of the reasons it’s a great place to raise children here.

So, when is this year’s Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill?

On June 7th, from 8:30 a.m. till noon.

And where is this year’s Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill?

At the Richmond Hill Fish  Hatchery on Highway 144.

Now, where exactly on Highway 144 is this year’s Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill?

Right between the library and the Kroger supermarket.

Registration begins that day at 8 a.m., and there is absolutely no charge to enter. The Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill is free and open to all children ages 15 and younger, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

What will the kids be trying to catch? Well, the whle thing takes place at the Fish Hatchery’s ponds which have been well stocked with catfish (not the walking kind, we hope!). Particpants should bring their own fishing poles, and those fishing poles should be ready to go.

That means kids should bring their own bait to the Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill, but for those who don’t or can’t, there will be an extremely limited supply of bait and fishing poles on hand which can be used at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

The nice folks at Roger Wood meats and the Savannah Coca Cola Bottling Company are providing free hotdogs and coke products to the particpants as well, so they won’t get hungry or thirsty while they fish.

There will be trophies give out for children 12 and younger and they will be presented in several categories. Additionally, every single child that enters the Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill will be in the running for door prizes which will be given away during the event.

Presentation of the awards will take place immediately following the dervy at noon.

Do you know someone under the age of 15 who would like to enter the Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill on June 7th at 8:30 a.m.?

If so, Kids Derby entry forms can be downloaded from www.rhxc.org/fishing.htm.

Let’s hope for great weather and a huge turnout at the Kids Fishing Derby taking place in Richmond Hill – and best of luck to everyone who enters!
